Eco Friendly Newspaper Pots
While we are still under shelter in place orders, let’s not forget we still have our creative minds. That old stack of newspaper is just what you will need to make biodegradable planting pots. Other supplies needed for this are: a spray can or something cylindrical, a plastic container, soil, seeds or transplants, and water. Follow these easy steps to start your indoor garden. First, open the newspaper and tear it vertically into 6″ – 8″ wide strips. Next, put the strip on a flat surface and lay the spray can about 1″ from the edge of the strip. Then, roll the can to the end of the newspaper strip and fold in the bottom of the newspaper while it is on the can. Remove the can, then fill the newspaper with soil. Next, use a finger tip to make a hole, drop the seed, and place the pot in the plastic container. Repeat this process until you have the desired number of newspaper pots. Then, put enough water in the plastic container to cover the bottom. The newspaper pot will absorb the water and hydrate the seeds or transplant. When the plants are too big for the plastic container, the biodegradable pot can be sown directly into the earth or a raised bed garden. This is a fun activity that can start and remain indoors or simply move it to the outside.
